§ 20-3. Firefighters.

  • (a)   

    Appointment; assumption of duties. All members of the fire department shall be appointed by the fire chief, but shall not enter upon the discharge of their duties until their appointment has been confirmed by a majority vote of the members of the board of aldermen.

    (b)   

    Duty to respond to alarms. Whenever there is a fire alarm, the firefighters shall, under the direction of the fire chief, travel as rapidly as possible to the scene of the fire with the fire apparatus, and there work and manage the same under the direction of the chief until the fire is extinguished.

    (c)   

    Leaving fire scene prohibited. It shall be unlawful for any member of the fire department to leave any fire before the same is extinguished without the permission of the fire chief.
